ORGANISERS: University of Hertfordshire | Intellect Books | Routledge | AMPS | PARADE -- CALL: Today, the city is technological infused entity premised on a plethora of digital phenomena including the Internet of Things, ubiquitous computing, computer-led infrastructure, big data and AI. It is also a place designed, envisaged and increasingly built through data based digital architecture, planning and construction. Both scenarios mediate how we design and experience of the city. The result is a series of complex interactions of people, place and data and the establishment of the 'digital city', 'smart buildings' and 'intelligent' urbanism. This new polemic agency of the machine informs the creative industries. A plethora of films in recent decades have built on the imaginary it offers while, in the arts, data is increasingly used as both a tool and motive for artworks. However, there are concerns. GIS, Google Maps and Facebook all offer interconnected information on urban life. They are also conduits for the collation of personal data and its misuse. Sociologists highlight the dangers of the digital dependency of future generations. 3D printed buildings threaten job losses in the construction industry. The idea of parametric urbanism is an anathema to many for whom city is a place of interpersonal interaction. This conference seeks to explore these and related issues from a variety of discipline perspectives. - To participate, submit an abstract: https://architecturemps.com/london-hatfield/ The conference will be made a fully online event as necessary. - OTHER CONFERENCES The conference is connected to a series of events related to technologies, education, design and city management. CfP: Information, Medium and Society: Nineteenth International Conference on Publishing Studies - A BLENDED CONFERENCE
| Information, Medium and Society: Nineteenth International Conference on Publishing Studies – a conference organized by The Publishing Studies Research Network and Universidad Complutense Madrid, Spain. -------- A BLENDED CONFERENCE Information, Medium and Society: The Publishing Studies Research Network was founded in 2003 with the inaugural International Conference on the Future of the Book. Since then, the Research Network has expanded its scope in two phases. The first was in 2009 when it became the Books, Publishing, and Libraries Research. In this iteration, the Research Network began to look beyond the book as the primary site of investigation. In 2019 the network underwent another change, to become Information, Medium and Society - The Publishing Studies Research Network. We are taking on these challenges by offering a blended conference experience, with session types explicitly designed to make the most of both online and in-person social knowledge processes. In conversation with our Research Network Members, we have been reflecting upon the kinds of scholarly conferences we need for our sustainable social futures. You do not need to commit either to a place-based or virtual presentation at the time of submission. You can present both ways or change your mode of the presentation if your preferences change. The choice to participate virtually could also be a moral decision – for the planet, for security, or when the financial burden of travel is too great. We aim to foster spaces that align with principles of social justice and community development. This way we build for our Research Network Members flexible, and at the same time resilient, spaces for communication, engagement, and participation. https://informationmediumsociety.com/2021-conference Place: Online + Universidad Complutense Madrid Format: A mix of live, pre-recorded, and in-person (on a scale that's allowed) presentations and social interaction spaces. Dates: 2 July 2021 -------- CALL FOR PAPERS Information, Medium and Society – The Publishing Studies Research Network is brought together by a shared interest in investigating publishing practices as distinctive modes of social knowledge production. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network, we are defined by our scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by our shared themes and tensions. Information, Medium and Society: Nineteenth International Conference on Publishing Studies features research addressing the following annual themes and special focus: Special Focus - Research in the Age of Thinking Machines: Implications for Scholars, Libraries, and Publishers Theme One – Informational Foundations Theme Two – Mediums of Disruption Theme Three – Social History and Impacts https://informationmediumsociety.com/2021-conference/call-for-papers -------- LOCAL RELATED CONFERENCES We understand travel is difficult in the current climate. For this reason, we also offer a related thematic event in our sister Research Networks that you might be able to attend in-person. This way we build for our Research Network Members flexible, and at the same time resilient, spaces for communication, engagement, and participation. Sixteenth International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (A Blended Conference)
| The Sixteenth International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences -- a conference organized by the Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Research Network and Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom -------- A BLENDED CONFERENCE The Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Research Network was founded on a commitment to providing innovative spaces for members to interact, converse, and learn from each other. In this critical moment, we must re-imagine the scholarly conference. We should consider our climate impacts, public health obligations, the need to dismantle the enduring blockages of access and participation for segments of our local and global communities, while at the same time supporting the development of meaningful personal relationships. We are taking on these challenges by offering a blended conference experience, with session types explicitly designed to make the most of both online and in-person social knowledge processes.
