The Representational Art Conference 2019
| The Representational Art Conference 2019 31st March to 4th April 2019 Ventura, United States of America http://trac2019.org Call for Papers! - IMAGINE - The Representational Art Conference 2019 is the premier international event focused on cutting-edge representational art in the 21st Century. A conference for studio artists, curators, thinkers and writers. This year we are especially interested in the relationship between imagination and 21st Century representational art. Imagination lies at the heart of art. Without it, creativity is impossible. But what is it, how is it employed, and what is its role in representational art? It is a term that everybody celebrates, but it is also (depending on how it is understood) the locus of fundamental disagreements about the nature of the artistic enterprise. This year's TRAC invites artists and thinkers to reflect together on the imagination's role in representational art. We invite submissions on a range of topics related to the imagination, such as: Can artists be both representational and imaginative? What is the relationship between 21st-century imaginative realism and movies? How can imagination be a vehicle of truth in art? Esoteric symbolism and imagination Allegory and representational art Is imagination simply a mode of subjective expression or can it be a guide to the real? Graham Harman's object-oriented ontology Metaphor and imagination How is imagination different from fantasy? What is the relationship between 21st Century representational art and the past? Pop-surrealism and lowbrow imagination How is imagination different from creativity? Critical approaches to science fiction and fantasy art and artists What is the role of imagination in religious art? Imagination and the atelier What are the respective roles of imagination and emotion in art? Which 21st-century artists have best used the constructive role of imagination in art? What is the connection between imagination and symbolism in art? Left brain/right brain: do artists need both? What are the connections between realism, idealism and imagination in art? The PreRaphaelite imagination and 21st Century representation The artist's eye: how does imagination aid artistic vision? How does imagination aid the perception of beauty? We will not accept papers by authors who describe their own artistic work. FINAL CALL SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 15th February 2019 To submit your abstract please visit: https://www.trac2019.org/call-for-papers/ Enquiries: pearce@callutheran.edu Web address: https://www.trac2019.org/call-for-papers/ Sponsored by: California Lutheran University |

Clashes of identities, beliefs and ideologies are evident in academia, media and the arts, contributing to a feeling that humanity is spiralling out of control; that our relationships with each other, as well as with the earth and environment, have never been worse. Yet, as humans, we are not conditioned by fear alone, but instead by a remarkable ingenuity, and a capacity for hope, self-reflection, activism and action. This agency to improve our own lives, and those of others, is the theme of this international conference, inviting us to consider the ways in which we contextualise and process the past, reimagining ourselves, our relationships, and our environments; driving positive change and reclaiming the future as a time we look towards with hope, and even optimism. ECAH2019 will be held alongside The 6th European Conference on Media, Communication and Film (EuroMedia2019). Registration for either conference will allow delegates to attend sessions in the other. In conjunction with our Global Partners, including the University of Sussex and Birkbeck, University of London, we look forward to extending you a warm welcome in 2019. – The ECAH2019 Organising Committee Anne Boddington, Kingston University, UK Bruce Brown, Royal College of Art, UK Matthew Coats, University of Brighton, UK Joseph Haldane, The International Academic Forum (IAFOR), Japan Donald E.
