The Asian Undergraduate Research Symposium 2018 (AURS2018)

Greetings from the Organising Committee for the Asian Undergraduate Research Symposium 2018!

What, you may well ask, is the Asian Undergraduate Research Symposium (AURS)? And why are we reaching out to you? Well, we are reaching out to tell you more about AURS, and how you can help support the researchers of the future.

The AURS is now in its fourth year and is held within The Asian Conference on Education, IAFOR's flagship Education conference in central Tokyo. However, AURS links across all of the conferences and disciplines as the participants have, in the past, come from a range of backgrounds.

AURS is an opportunity for undergraduate scholars from across all fields and disciplines to participate in a symposium where students share their academic research experiences and the knowledge they have acquired as an undergraduate working with professors or academic mentors. Taking place in a supportive and collegial environment, AURS2018 provides undergraduates with a motivating and thought-provoking opportunity to:

*network with other undergraduates and academics from around the world;
*find out how their participation in the symposium can aid them in their future directions;
*learn and hone presentation skills in a workshop environment before presenting their research in a "live" poster session before ACE attendees;
*learn to interact across national and cultural borders;
*learn to communicate with their peers and professors from different universities;
*learn how these presentation skills translate to a variety of professional environments.

All student presenters will also have the chance to attend other academic sessions at ACE as an observer.

Now that you know what AURS is. How can you assist?

We are asking that you let your colleagues and institutions know about this special event for undergraduates. If you have undergraduates who do research under your guidance, why not encourage them to attend? Perhaps you can bring them with you as you come to ACE in Tokyo in October. Can you encourage your institution to support two, three, or even more promising research undergraduates to attend?

AURS2018 will take place on Sunday 14 October in Tokyo, but students who register for the event will have access to all presentations of ACE2018 as audience members. The dates of the conference are 13-15 October. Abstract submission closes on July 31. We would love to see undergraduates from your area attend – please help us to spread the word!

Warmest regards,

Yvonne and José

The IAFOR Global Innovation and Value Summit 2018

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of IAFOR and J. Walter Thompson, it is my great honor to invite you to submit an abstract to The IAFOR Global Innovation and Value Summit 2018 (GIVS-Tokyo2018), October 5th to 7th 2018 in Tokyo, Japan. This Summit will weave together concepts of Innovation & Value creation from multiple perspectives, industries and domains to arrive at new insights for practitioners and researchers.

We are proud that some of Japan's and the world's leading innovators have committed to participate on the first day of this event, including:

Dr John Beck, Chief Innovation Officer, Arizona State University
Oki Matsumoto, Managing Director and Chairman, Monex Group
Yazaburo Mogi, Honorary CEO and Chairman, Kikkoman
Dr Sachio Semmoto, Executive Chairman, Renova Inc.

GIVS welcomes high-quality, high-impact abstracts for presentations that will deepen and broaden the discussions during the Global Innovation and Value Symposium on October 5th. We are looking forward to your submission.

***GIVS Summit Theme: "The Spirit of Innovation"

The IAFOR Global Innovation and Value Summit 2018 Tokyo, brings together leaders who drive business in Japan. The conference will raise questions of innovation and value and answer them looking at the innovation ecosystems at the global, regional and local levels in Japan.

The Summit opens with a powerful one-day symposium and then continues to explore through a two-day academic conference.Our distinguished and accomplished Keynote Symposium Speakers will set the scene by speaking to the theme of the conference. Then, four plenary panels will examine questions of innovation and value. The first will look at Heritage companies in Japan. Home to more than 50 percent of the world's companies over 200 years old, Japan offers excellent case studies of companies that had to repeatedly innovate to survive. The next two panels will offer contrastive insights and perspectives from both large enterprises and young start-ups. The final panel tackles policy from the sides of government and education.

Delegates may choose to register for either the full GIVS Summit (GIVS Symposium and GIVS Conference), or the GIVS Symposium only. The GIVS Summit includes attendance at both the day one symposium at the Hotel Gajoen Tokyo, and the two-day academic conference which follows in the Toshi Center. Both venues are located in central Tokyo. Delegates presenting at the conference must register for the GIVS Summit. Discounted registration rates are offered to government employees, civil servants, academics and full-time students.

Registering for the GIVS Summit provides delegates with three days of intensive networking, study, and professional development. You will meet leaders working at the cutting edge of industries in the public and private sector both in Japan and overseas. Day One offers unparalleled opportunities to learn from some of Japan's leading figures in industry, government, and education, as they discuss the big ideas surrounding innovation and value. On Days Two and Three we will unpack these ideas and dig deeper during the academic conference. See and listen, then engage and debate.

Sincerely,

Dr Joseph Haldane, Chairman and CEO, IAFOR

***Call for Papers

Innovation has been defined as invention brought to market, which in turn generates value for a firm and its key stakeholders including its customers, clients, partners, society and the planet. While the models of innovation that have captured the attention of the global media tend to celebrate technical innovation and growth, other models and modes of innovation are equally if not more compelling in their scope and impact.

The focus of this conference then is to push the limits of our understanding of Innovation within both local and global contexts, the mindset that drives Innovation within organisations, communities and countries, and the value outcomes that grow out of these efforts. Specifically, this conference will generate discussion and explore answers around the following six streams:

The Innovation Mindset
Organisational Innovation
Customer Innovation
Value System Innovation
Social Innovation
Energy and Environmental Innovation

The IAFOR Conference on Heritage and the City - New York (HCNY)

It is with great excitement that IAFOR and the 2018 Organising Committee announce the inaugural IAFOR Conference on Heritage and the City - New York (HCNY2018). This interdisciplinary event is held at Hofstra University from November 7 to 9, 2018.

***Conference Theme – "Urban Heritage and the Modern City"

The study of cities seems a daunting and ostensibly perpetual task. This may be due to the fact that cities are an imperative requisite in the rise and development of civilisation, products of the momentous shift from a simple way of life to the complex social, political and economic systems that characterise what we call "culture". Cities are organic entities, experiencing constant structural changes that help to rearrange their influence and importance relative to other cities around the globe. While in the past a city's importance was measured in terms of size or political relevance (as in being the capital of a nation), in today's environment a city's prominence is primarily distinguished by the scope and vigour of its economic life and the extent to which it serves as a command and control centre for global capitalism.

On the wake of such structural changes, the city's socio-spatial configuration has experienced significant alterations as diverse urban communities transform in order to contend with the new realities. Thus, descriptions of the modern city require the scholar to reconsider and reinterpret the cultural heritage of an ever-more complex geographical space, enriched by the presence and contributions of new arrivals that bring cultural interpretative proposals that may not harmonise with previously accepted models.

The diversity and otherness of the new city-space requires us to study the city as a sort of cultural heritage collage, with its Chinatowns, Barrios, Harlems and Little Italy neighbourhoods; moreover, it urges us to consider new methodological paradigms that will prove more compatible with the dappled nature of the city. In presenting their work, speakers at The IAFOR Conference on Heritage and the City – New York (HCNY) will address these fundamental questions, keeping in mind that the particular urban environment of each individual city is distinctive and multifaceted. It is hoped that the presenters who graciously agree to attend this conference will help build the concept of "urban heritage" as the foundation for developing pioneering methodologies for the study of cities.

The IAFOR Conference on Heritage and the City – New York (HCNY) is a multidisciplinary conference held at Hofstra University, New York, USA. Keynote, Featured and Spotlight Speakers will provide a variety of perspectives from different academic and professional backgrounds.

In conjunction with IAFOR's Global Partners, we look forward to welcoming you to New York!
