44th NSEE Annual Conference

National Society of Experiential Education (NSEE), is a non-profit membership organization composed of educators, businesses, and community leaders. Founded in 1971, NSEE also serves as a national resource center for the development and improvement of experiential education programs nationwide.

44th Annual Conference

2015 NSEE Annual Conference: Final Week to Submit to Speak at Conference

Proposal Submission Deadline: January 23, 2015

Conference Theme: Experiential Education for the 21st Century Preserving High Impact Practices in a Digital and Virtual World

Call for Proposals: Visit www.nsee.org

Teaching and learning today take place in a fast-paced and ever-changing landscape of technology, information, social media and global connectivity. The many forms of experiential education-internships, service learning, education abroad, co-ops, project work, or undergraduate research-are no exception. Embedding high-impact teaching practices into our educational programs and providing students with concrete and authentic learning experiences in which they can reflect, conceptualize, and actively experiment-these are the challenges we face in a digital world where students spend ever more time and energy within virtual spaces, online platforms and social networks.

Whether carried out across the oceans or across the tracks, today's experiential education programs-if they are to be effective and lead to meaningful learning and personal development-must respond to the many challenges and very great opportunities that a wireless and often virtual world of connectivity and information present to experiential teachers and learners. As educators in this new world informational order, we face a singular challenge: how best to preserve the high-impact experiential teaching and learning practices that we know work and which research continues to demonstrate. The opportunity before us-how to integrate these new technologies into established high-impact practices intelligently, authentically, and reflectively-holds out the promise that successful strategies in program design and delivery will strengthen experiential education for the 21st century.

Join NSEE as members and friends explore these and related issues at the 44th Annual Conference on the beach in sunny St. Pete Beach, Florida. In a wired and virtual world of social media, learn to apply NSEE's Eight Principles of Good Practice for All Experiential Learning Activities to experiential programs at your home institution. Meet and share experiences with experiential educators, practitioners, faculty and students who use technology and social media in innovative ways that advance the theory and practice of Experiential Education. Enroll in NSEE's pre-conference workshops delivered by the Experiential Education Academy (EEA) and gain theoretical grounding and practical insights into good practice in experiential program design, delivery and assessment.

NSEE invites session and poster proposals addressing this year's conference theme!

Topical areas of investigation for the 44th NSEE Annual Conference include:

- What impact is technology having on the traditional theory and practice of experiential education?
- How do we adapt the existing experiential education theories, such as the Kolb Learning Cycle, for students learning in a progressively virtual and online world?
- What case studies demonstrate good practice in integrating technology into the active learning classroom?
- How do internships, co-ops and service learning programs use technology experientially?
- How do we apply NSEE Eight Principles of Good Practice for All Experiential Learning Activities in a digital age?
- How do we use E-Portfolios, team-based design, and participatory learning within experiential pedagogies?
- How can we use these technologies to expand and deepen experiential education, both on and off campus?
- What challenges and opportunities do such technologies present to experiential educators?

NSEE's 44th Annual Conference addresses these and related questions by exploring how experiential educators are adapting to the changed technological landscape of K-16 education today.

NSEE invites session and poster proposals from faculty, administrators and students using principles of good practice in experiential education and preserving high impact teaching and learning practices in our digital and virtual world. Visit www.nsee.org to learn more.

Thirteenth International Conference on Books, Publishing, and Libraries

THE THIRTEENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BOOKS, PUBLISHING, AND LIBRARIES

Vancouver, Canada
University of British Columbia - Robson Square
19-20 October 2015

Dear Delegate,

Proposals for paper presentations, workshops, posters, or colloquia are invited for the Thirteenth International Conference on Books, Publishing, and Libraries being held at the University of British Columbia - Robson Square, in Vancouver, Canada from 19-20 October 2015. We welcome proposals from a variety of disciplines and perspectives that will contribute to the conference discourse. We also encourage faculty and research students to submit joint proposals for paper presentations or colloquia.

SPECIAL CONFERENCE FOCUS:

"The Event of the Book"

The 2015 Book Conference coincides with the Vancouver Writer's Festival. As the social worlds of the book are being evermore mediated by digital modes of production and distribution, how do we make sense of 'The Event of the Book?' At a micro level, the event of the book is the experience of holding a material object. At the macro level, the event of the book is the experience of person-to-person events such as writers' festivals. How might the digital re-energize - 'materialize' - the event of the book? How can the affordances of digital technologies re-configure how we understand the media and social practices of the event of the book at micro and macro levels?

The 2015 meeting will feature a special focus on this thought-provoking subject. We welcome open debate, discourse, and research from participants that center on this special topic, as well as any other themes or issues relevant to books, publishing, and libraries. We also encourage faculty and research students to submit joint proposals for paper presentations, colloquia, or panel discussions.

CONFERENCE THEMES:

Proposals for paper presentations, workshops or colloquia are invited that discuss the broader themes listed below. In addition to the special focus, paper presentations will be grouped into one of the following categories for presentation at the conference:

Theme 1: Publishing Practices: Past, Present, and Future
Theme 2: Reading, Writing, Literacy, and Learning
Theme 3: Books and Libraries
Special Focus: The Event of the Book

If you are unable to attend the conference in person, you may still join the community and submit your article for peer review and possible publication, upload an online presentation, and enjoy subscriber access to The International Journal of the Book.

Proposals for in-person presentations should be submitted by 22 SEPTEMBER 2015 (title and short abstract). Proposals submitted after this day will be accommodated in non-themed sessions at the conference or are eligible for community membership registrations (no attendance at conference required with community membership presentations).
