Open Space Facilitation - Making it work!

Open Space Facilitation - Making it work!
28-30 Sep 2010, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Event Link:
http://www.merlien.org/upcoming-events/osft2010.html

Are you tired of events that are remembered only
for what happened during coffee breaks? Are you
looking for new ways of designing conference
programmes, actively involving participants and
increasing the added value of your conferences?

In the last years, a number of new techniques and
methodologies (unconferences, barcamps, etc.) have
increasingly been used to design and manage
conferences and meetings in more innovative and
fruitful ways. All those techniques basically
derive from Open Space Technology format. Open
Space Technology is a simple way to run productive
meetings, for five to 2000+ people, and a powerful
way to lead any kind of organization, in everyday
practice and extraordinary change. It's use in
conferences and gatherings increases the
opportunity for participants to share their
knowledges, follow their passion and take the
responsibility for discussing what really matters
to them.

About the workshop:
The International Open Space Facilitator explores
the use and potentialities of Open Space
Technology and its applications in the design and
(un)management of meetings and gatherings with
particular reference to conference settings. It
will equip you with the essential skills to design
and execute an open space event or incorporate
open space within your existing conference formats.

About the Trainers:
This training workshop conducted by Frank Little
and Gerardo de Luzenberger from the School of
Facilitation. Living in and working from the
Netherlands, Frank is an experienced facilitator
and trainer in project and programme management,
international negotiation and intercultural
teamwork. He has been training facilitators and
moderators for more than 25 years. His work on
participation in international projects and
programmes includes development, training and
workshop facilitation for various Directorates
general of the European Commission (DG XIII,
Enterprise; DG Research; DG Region; DG
Development). Living and working from Italy,
Gerardo is a facilitator and trainer, expert in
participatory planning, meetings management and
organisational development. He has acquired a
significant expertise in the use of Open Space
Technology in the design of conference and
meetings and run himself more then 100 Open Space
gatherings in many different contexts and
cultures. He is a IAF (International Association
of Facilitators) Certified Professional Facilitator.

Who should attend:
This workshop is for meeting organisers and
facilitators who will offer their participants the
opportunity to tackle complex issues in a highly
interactive, productive and self-structured
unconference environment. The workshop is
designed with meeting organisers and facilitators
in mind who work for government agencies,
educational institutions, European programmes and
projects, professional conference companies and
industry associations.

This two and half days course includes
refreshments and lunches. Accommodation and travel
expenses are not included in the registration fee.
Our confirmed participants thus far include
facilitators and conference executives from UK,
The Netherlands, Italy and Macedonia.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to equip
yourself with skills to design and execute a
successful open space event.

Limited scholarships worth up to 500 EUR are
available for students and individuals from
low-income countries.

1st Global Conference Trauma - Theory and Practice

1st Global Conference Trauma - Theory and Practice

Monday 14th March – Wednesday 16th March 2011
Prague, Czech Republic

Call for Papers
This inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary
conference seeks to examine and explore issues
surrounding individual and collective trauma,
both in terms of practice, theory and lived
reality. Trauma studies have emerged from its
foundation in psychoanalysis to be a dominant
methodology for understanding contemporary events
and our reactions to them. Critics have argued
that we live in a culture of trauma. Repeated
images of suffering and death form our collective
and/or cultural unconscious. This inaugural
conference seeks in particular to explore the
relation between trauma, memory and identity, both
national and collective.

In addition to academic analysis, we welcome the
submission of case studies or other approaches
from those involved with its practice, such
as people in the medical profession and
therapists, victims of events which have resulted
in traumas on either an individual or mass scale,
journalists or authors of fiction whose work deals
with trauma.

Papers, reports, work-in-progress, workshops and
pre-formed panels are invited on issues related to
any of the following themes:

1. Public and Political Trauma

bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and ongoing
conflicts, such as the Iraq War and the situation
in Afghanistan
~ Public disasters and trauma, e.g. responses to
the Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters;
school shootings; September 11th
~ Disease, public health and trauma – aids, swine
flu, and fears of contagion

2. Personal and Individual Trauma
~ Bereavement
~ Murder and Assault
~ Domestic Violence
~ Child Abuse
~ Survivor guilt
~ Disability

3. Diagnosing and Treating Trauma
~ Psychotherapy, cognitive psychology and other
psychological approaches to treating victims of trauma
~ Psychiatry
~ Other medical approaches
~ non-medical approaches, for example, narrative
approaches, music, art

4. Theorising Trauma
~ Trauma and post colonialism
~ Memory and trauma
~ National identity and trauma
~ Trauma studies and psychoanalysis
~ Individual versus Collective trauma
~ Cultural trauma
~ Gender and trauma
