MediAsia 2010 - The Asian Conference on Media
and Mass Communication 2010
28 to 30 October 2010
Osaka, Japan
The International Academic Forum, in conjunction
with its global partners, is pleased to announce
the inaugural Asian Conference on Media and
Mass Communication 2010, to be held in Osaka,
Japan, from October 28-30 2010.
Conference Chair: Professor Gary E. Swanson
Mildred S. Hansen Endowed Chair in Journalism
The University of Northern Colorado, USA
Conference Theme: Brave New World
Special Theme 1: Brave New World: Challenges
and Opportunities
The media industry is at a crossroads in many
respects, as it seeks to come to terms with
developments in technology that simultaneously
allow new heights of journalistic excellence to be
reached, as well as the emergence of more
worrying trends. The unparalleled opportunities of
today's connected world have created a new set of
challenges that need to be met, including
questions of power and responsibility, editorial
accountability, and the erosion of more traditional
income streams. How these challenges and
opportunities are confronted will shape the future
of the media industry.
Special Theme 2: Brave New World: Globalization
and Internationalization
Media organizations across the world are
becoming increasingly socially, ethnically and
culturally diverse, both as a consequence of
globalization and in response to
internationalization. What are the positive and
negative effects of these processes? How can the
strangely powerful and yet rhetorically ambiguous
concepts of globalization and internationalization
exert benign and normative influences on the
media industry, and how can they be used to
more detrimental and even sinister effect?
The conference theme, 'Brave New World', invites
submissions that approach this wide topic from a
variety of perspectives and approaches. However,
the submission of other topics for consideration
is welcome and we also encourage sessions within
and across a variety of disciplines and fields
related to Media and Mass Communication,
